SALT LAKE CITY - Utah baseball player Shaun Cooper has signed a free-agent contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Cooper hit .228 for the Utes, ranking second on the team with eight home runs. He also had 14 doubles and a triple with 30 RBI. Last year he was a first-team all-Mountain West Conference outfielder, finishing sixth in the conference with a .332 batting average. Cooper was also named the 2011 Summer Player of the Year by Perfect Game.
Earlier this week the Utes had three players chosen in the Major League Baseball draft - Tyler Wagner (4th round, Milwaukee), Parker Morin (14th round, Kansas City) and James Brooks (20th round, Washington).
