SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team continues its series against BYU in Provo on Tuesday, April 23, at 6:00 p.m. MT.
Utah and BYU play four times this season. The series winner will receive three points in the Deseret First Duel rivalry series between the two schools. Utah holds a 25-19 lead with six points still up for grabs in baseball and softball, which means the worst the Utes can do is tie for the rivalry trophy.
Utah and BYU have two games remaining, with the Utes hosting the Cougars on May 7, and Utah traving to BYU on May 14.
Utah won the first game of the series on March 26, 5-4 in 10 innings. Utah led 1-0 most of the game after scoring a run in the fifth inning before BYU rallied in the top of the ninth to score four runs and take a 4-1 lead. The Utes came back to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth, 4-4, before TJ Bennett hit a walk-off single in the 10th inning to score Dallas Carroll for the game-winning run.
Utah (16-19, 5-13 Pac-12) went 2-2 last week, defeating Utah Valley in a midweek game before dropping two of three to USC.
"We're going to have to regroup from a couple of tough losses this weekend, but there is no better way to do that than getting back on the field," Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said.
BYU is 19-15 and 7-5 in the West Coast Conference. The Cougars have won eight of their last 10 games. BYU has been idle due to finals since a three-game series against Portland from April 11-13.
The Utes host Arizona State this weekend for a three-game series beginning on Friday, April 26.
