SALT LAKE CITY - Six Utah baseball players have been named to the 2013 Pac-12 Baseball All-Academic teams. Senior Joe Pond and junior Luke West led the Utes as second team selections.
Pond, who was also a second-team All-Academic pick last year, has a 3.52 grade point average and is majoring in economics. He is ninth in the Pac-12 with 66 strikeouts. West has a 3.51 grade point average with a major in business administration.
Honorable mention selections were junior pitcher Nick Green, junior pitcher Josh Chapman, junior infielder Cory Hunt and senior outfielder Tyler Relf. Chapman, Hunt and Relf were also honorable mention picks last season.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
