COSTA MESA, Calif. - Four of the five Ute individuals at the F24 USA Futures Event continued on to the third round Friday at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center.
Senior Alejandro Medinilla started the day off strong with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Marc Vartabedian of UC Santa Cruz. Junior Cedric Willems then defeated Washington's Emmett Egger, 6-4, 7-6(2).
Junior Slim Hamza then battled Joseph DiGiulio of UCLA to a narrow 6-2, 1-6, 7-5 victory, while senior Ben Tasevac downed UC Santa Barbara's Axel Bouillion, 6-4, 7-5. Senior Devin Lane was unable to come up with a win and fell to Eduardo Nava, 6-3, 6-2.
In the third round, Medinilla will battle Andrew Diefenbach, while Willems takes on Sahr Kuplun. Tasevac faces UC Irvine's Ryan Cheung and Hamza duels Matt Kandath of Stanford.
