SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah baseball team will host 'An Evening with Jim Palmer' at the Sheraton Salt Lake City Hotel on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015.
"We're excited to have Jim Palmer continue the tradition of baseball greats who have participated in our season-opening banquet," Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "To have one of the best pitchers in baseball history is an honor for our team and fans. The banquet is always an exciting night to kick off the start of our season."
A three-time Cy Young award winner and six-time all-star during a 19-year career with the Baltimore Orioles, Palmer was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1990. He pitched in six World Series, becoming the youngest player ever to pitch a World Series shutout in 1966. Palmer is recognized as being the only pitcher in history who won a World Series game in three separate decades, winning rings with the Orioles in 1966, 1970 and 1983.
Palmer recorded 268 wins and had a .638 winning percentage during his career. He had eight 20-win seasons and won four gold gloves. Palmer pitched his entire career without ever allowing a grand slam. Following his playing career, he transitioned into broadcasting and is an analyst on Orioles television broadcasts.
The evening will feature a reception at 6:00 p.m. with dinner beginning at 7:00 p.m., followed by an auction. Tickets for the event are $100 per person or $1,000 per table of 10.
