With baseball season right around the corner, UtahUtes.com will introduce you to the new players on the team in 'Getting to Know.' Today's spotlight is Tanner Thomas, who was a first-team all-league selection at Grandview HS (Aurora, Colo.).
What is your favorite baseball memory?
Pitching in the 5A state semifinal game my junior year.
What is your favorite sport besides baseball?
Basketball
What do you like to do when you are not playing baseball?
I enjoy playing other sports recreationally such as basketball or soccer, as well as reading and doing community service.
Why did you choose Utah? What is the best thing about Utah?
I chose Utah for the outstanding opportunities it offered me, both athletically and academically.
Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why?
My family has been the biggest influence in my life because they have always pushed me to do great things and be the best player I can.
My favorite thing about Salt Lake City is:
The atmosphere.
What are your goals for this year?
My goal for this year is to contribute in any way I can to make the 2015 season a great one.
What is your major and what do you want to do after you graduate?
Exercise and sport science. I want to pursue a professional baseball career, but I also have aspirations of becoming a physician's assistant if baseball is no longer an avenue.
