SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team continues on the road this weekend against Loyola Marymount. The three-game series opens on Friday, Feb. 28, at 6:00 p.m. PT, followed by 1:00 p.m. PT games on Saturday, March 1, and noon PT on Sunday, March 2.
Utah is coming off a strong weekend at the Pac-12/Big 10 Challenge, going 2-1 at the tournament. Utah had the most wins of any Pac-12 team in the tournament, with Oregon State and Washington both going 1-2 in the challenge. Utah upset 10th-ranked Indiana in 15 innings and also defeated Nebraska.
The Utes are 4-3 overall this season.
"We got better again this weekend," Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "Our pitching was again outstanding this weekend overall three days. All three teams we played are really physical offensive clubs. Our defense was very good as well. We got a little better offensively and that will continue to get better. We're starting to develop roles, and the guys are playing extremely hard. With our pitching, we're going to be in games and they are going to be close and we're learning how to win those.
"Our guys are playing hard and we're ready for the next challenge. We'll just move on and hopefully chalk up those three games as learning experiences and continue to get better."
The Utes will start Mitch Watrous on the mound on Friday. Junior Tanner Banks and sophomore Dalton Carroll will start on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Loyola Marymount is 2-5 on the year. The Lions have dropped their last three games, all to No. 11 Oregon. Loyola Marymount plays UC Irvine on Tuesday before facing the Utes over the weekend.
