WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Utah baseball pitcher Nick Green has been named as the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week, it was announced today by the conference office.
Green is Utah's first Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week since the Utes' first season in the conference in 2012. Dallas Carroll won Utah's first Pac-12 Player of the Week award last season.
Green pitched seven innings in relief in Utah's 15-inning win over 10th-ranked Indiana. He allowed just one unearned run on three hits, striking out nine. It was the longest outing of his career. He entered in the eighth inning with one out and a runner on after Indiana scored the game-tying run to make the score 3-3, and got two strikeouts to get out of the inning. He continued to pitch into the 15th inning.
Green has pitched in three games this year for Utah. He has made two saves, has a team-high 12 strikeouts and a 0.96 ERA, allowing just one earned run.
Utah continues on the road this weekend against Loyola Marymount. The three-game series opens on Friday, Feb. 28, at 6:00 p.m. PT, followed by 1:00 p.m. PT games on Saturday, March 1, and Sunday, March 2.
