Utah moves to 5-0 with a 30-24 win against California. Utah is now 5-5 all-time against California. This is Utah's first 5-0 start since winning the first eight in 2010. The Utes are now 16-22 in league games as a member of the Pac-12 Conference. This is Utah's first 2-0 start in the Pac-12 since joining the conference in 2011. Utah is now 58-33-4 all-time in Homecoming games.
Utah is 15-2 when ranked in the top 10 of the Associated Press poll.
Attendance was 47,798, which is the second-largest crowd in Rice-Eccles Stadium history. Utah has now sold out 34 consecutive contests with 30 played before standing-room only crowds.
Utah held a 6-3 edge in turnover margin over the Golden Bears and has 17 takeaways this season (12 interceptions and five fumble recoveries). The Utes had five interceptions in a single game for the first time since BYU in 2008. The Utes came up with takeaways on three of Cal's first four drives. In the first half, Utah held a 5-2 turnover advantage.
Utah converted its first three red zone chances with a pair of touchdown and a field goal. The Utes are 20-of-21 (95.2%) this season in red zone opportunities.
The Utes were 2-of-2 on fourth-down attempts and the Utes are 10-for-11 (90.9%) on the season.
The Utah defense limited Cal to five rushing yards on seven attempts in the second quarter. The Utes held a 33:30 to 26:30 edge in time of possession.
Senior running back Devontae Booker had season-high 222 rushing yards (season-high 34 carries), including touchdown runs of 4 and 40 yards. His 222 yards is the ninth-highest single-game total in school history. His 40-yard run was his longest of the season. This was his fourth career game with multiple rushing touchdowns (second this season). His 222 rushing yards was his second career 200-yard rushing game and first of this season. (He had 229 yards at Oregon State in 2013). He has 10 career 100-yard rushing games and three this season, which is tied for fourth-most in school history. He led Utah with 267 all-purpose yards, which included 45 receiving yards (four catches).
Booker became the 13th player in school history with at least 2,000 career rushing yards. He is now eighth in school history with 2,177 career rushing yards and his 432 career carries has him 10th. He has six rushing touchdowns this season and is tied for 10th-most in school history with 16 in his career.
Senior quarterback Travis Wilson made his fourth start of the season (31st career).He is 4-0 as the starter (19-12 career). Wilson was 16-of-26 passing (61.5%) for 170 yards and one touchdown. He is now fourth in school history (5,991) in career passing yards.
Junior Cory Butler-Byrd played on both sides of the ball. He made his first career receiving touchdown, a 54-yard score to put Utah ahead 17-10 at the end of the second quarter. He also came up with his first career pass breakup as a cornerback to go with two total tackles.
Junior cornerback Dominique Hatfield had two interceptions and now has three this season (four career).
Sophomore safety Marcus Williams turned in his team-leading fourth interception this year (fifth career) for an 18-yard return. He also recovered a fumble and had five tackles.
Senior safety Tevin Carter led Utah with nine tackles. Senior linebacker Gionni Paul had seven tackles and had his second interception of the season and sixth in two seasons as a Ute. Pita Taumoepenu had one sack. He leads Utah with 4.0 sacks this season and four of his six tackles this season have been sacks.
Tom Hackett averaged 50.8 yards per punt on four punts (203 yards) with two downed inside the 10 (8 and 5-yard lines).
Andy Phillips went 3-for-4 in field goals with makes from 36, 39 and 44 yards (miss from 48). He is now 8-for-11 this season and 48-of-59 for his career. He was 3-for-3 on PAT attempts and is now 108-of-109 for his career.
