SALT LAKE CITY - Utah men's basketball fans got a chance to preview the 2015-16 squad following a pair of one-half scrimmages at Night with the Runnin' Utes Wednesday evening at the Huntsman Center.
The Utes split into two teams (White and Red) and the White team came away with wins in both halves, downing the Red team 38-27 and 27-22 in exhibition play.
Jordan Loveridge, who finished the first half with a team-high 11 points, opened the contest with a three-pointer and went on to shoot 3-for-5 from the field and a 3-for-4 effort from beyond the three-point line. Lorenzo Bonam was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field, finishing the first half with 10 points and a team-high four rebounds for the White team. Jakob Poeltl tallied eight points and posted a pair of rebounds for the White team, as well.
Dakarai Tucker led the way for the Red team in the first half, collecting eight points on 3-of-6 shooting, while both Brekkott Chapman and Isaiah Wright added six points each. Gabe Bealer scored five points and led the team on the boards with three rebounds.
Following the first half, a few players switched sides and the squads played one final half that went for 12 minutes. The White team came away with the win in the second half also, downing the Red team by a five-point margin.
Poeltl tallied a team-high six points for the White team in the second half and finished the night with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting. Austin Montgomery, Kyle Kuzma and Tucker added five points each for the White team. Tucker led both squads in the second half with four boards.
Bealer led the Red team in the second half with seven points, while Bonam switched sides and finished the second half with six points. He totaled 16 points and pulled down five rebounds on the evening. Chapman went 2-for-2 from the field for the Red team in the second half and finished the period with five points.
Both teams combined to shoot 52.3 percent from the field, going 45-for-86 from the floor, and 34.6 percent (9-of-26) from beyond the arc. The Utes were 15-for-23 from the charity stripe, finishing the game with a 65.2 percent effort from the free throw line.
The Utes will continue its preparation of the upcoming season for the next few weeks and will be back in action on Thursday, Nov. 5 in an exhibition game against Cal State Monterey Bay. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside the Huntsman Center.
