SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team continues at home against Pac-12 foe Arizona State, opening a three-game series on Thursday, April 2, at 6:00 p.m. at Smith's Ballpark. The series continues on Friday, April 3, at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 4, at 5:00 p.m.
All three games will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks with Daron Sutton and Kevin Stocker calling the action.
Fans attending on Thursday will receive a Utah baseball schedule magnet. Fans wearing black on Friday receive free admission as part of `Black Friday.' On Sunday, Utah will host a pregame Easter Egg hunt for kids to find around the ballpark as they enter the stadium.
Utah continues its season-long baseball card promotion, with the first 250 fans in attendance on Thursday receiving a Dallas Carroll baseball card, with Biss Larsen featured on Friday and Dustin Hughes and Cole Taylor on Saturday.
The Utes (9-17, 3-6 Pac-12) went 1-2 last weekend against No. 21 California, dropping the first two games of the series before coming back to win game three on Sunday, 3-2. Utah had one of its best hitting weekends of the season, recording a season-high 15 hits in game one and 14 hits in game two. In game three, Jayson Rose and Brock Duke combined for 17 strikeouts on the mound to beat the Golden Bears. Rose was named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week after coming away with 11 strikeouts in six innings. He did not walk a batter in the win.
Utah makes a change to its starting rotation this week, with Nolan Stouder stepping into the Thursday night slot. Dalton Carroll and Rose continue on Friday and Saturday.
The Utes rank third in the Pac-12 in stolen bases (37), led by eight stolen bases from Dallas Carroll. Carroll and Cody Scaggari are ranked first and second, respectively, in the conference as the toughest to strike out. Kody Davis is seventh in the nation in number of times hit by pitch (12).
Arizona State (18-7, 7-2 Pac-12) is second in the Pac-12 with a .300 batting average. The Sun Devils are coming off a three-game sweep of Stanford.
