SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Utah freshman outfielder/utility player Heather Bowen has been named this week's Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, according to a release from the league office on Monday.
Bowen paced the Utah offense this past weekend, leading the squad with five hits, four runs scored, a pair of home runs and five runs batted in. She registered a .500 batting average while helping guide the Utes to its first-ever sweep over a Pac-12 team on the road since Utah joined the league back in 2012. The true freshman totaled 11 bases for a team-best 1.100 slugging percentage and had a pair of walks, as well, to boast a .583 on-base percentage.
Bowen was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate in Saturday's 7-5 win over Beavers with a solo home run -- her second of the series -- to go along with a pair of RBI and two runs scored. She was a threat on the base paths, as well, collecting a pair of steals in her two stolen base attempts on the weekend.
Bowen's first-career Pac-12 honor gives Utah three freshman of the week nods for the season. It is Utah's third consecutive weekly honor and fourth overall on the season.
