SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team hosts Utah Valley in a midweek game on Tuesday, April 14, at 6:00 p.m. MT.
Utah continues its season-long baseball card promotion on Tuesday, with the first 250 fans in attendance receiving a Wade Gulden and Trenton Stoltz baseball card.
Tuesday's game marks the second of three games this season between the Utes and Wolverines. Utah won the first game, also in Salt Lake City, back on March 17, 9-3. Dylan Drachler, Nolan Stouder and Tanner Thomas combined for 13 strikeouts on the mound, and the Utes had 12 hits on the night, led by three hits from Wyler Smith. The schools will close out the three-game series in Orem on May 5.
"We're looking forward to getting back on the field and making sure that we do what we need to do to get ready to play Stanford, this weekend" Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said.
The contest also marks the end of an 11-game homestand for Utah.
"This part of the schedule has been really nice," Kinneberg said on the long homestand. "And after this weekend we have our next two series at home also. It was tough playing six in a row on the road to start the year but this part of the schedule has been nice. I think we've settled into the ballpark, so it's been good."
The Utes (12-20, 4-8 Pac-12) won their third series of the year last weekend, going 2-1 against Southeastern Louisiana. After falling in the ninth inning of game one, Utah scored its most runs of the season in game two and rallied after losing a late lead in game three to win in the bottom of the ninth.
The Utes rank second in the Pac-12 in stolen bases with 48, and is tied for second in the conference in batters hit by pitch (45). Kody Davis is sixth in the conference in on-base percentage (.451), and ranks seventh in the NCAA in times hit by pitch (15).
Utah Valley is 12-21 overall and 8-4 in the WAC. The Wolverines recently won two out of three against Sacramento State.
Utah returns to Pac-12 play this weekend, traveling to Stanford for a three-game series beginning on Friday, April 17.
