SALT LAKE CITY - Utah baseball continues at home this weekend for a three-game series against 13th-ranked USC. The series begins on Friday, May 1, at 8:00 p.m. MT, and continues on Saturday, May 2, at 6:30 p.m. MT and Sunday, May 3, at 1:00 p.m. MT.
All three games will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks. Rich Cellini (Friday), Thad Anderson (Saturday and Sunday) and Geoff Blum will call the action.
Fans wearing black on Friday receive free admission as part of `Black Friday.' Friday is also `World Record Night' and members of the crowd will help attempt to break four world records during the game, including most people making heart-shaped hand gestures, fastest time to eat a muffin, fastest female baseball pitch and longest time balancing an open folding chair on the chin.
Saturday is `Ute Proud' day and the team will be celebrating the Ute Tribe throughout the game with patches on their jerseys, and the first 250 fans in attendance will receive a Ute Proud flag.
Utah continues its season-long baseball card promotion, with the first 250 fans in attendance on Friday receiving a Kody Davis baseball card, with Hunter Simmons featured on Saturday and Neil Sterling and Joshua Tedeschi Sunday.
The Utes (14-25, 6-11 in the Pac-12) rank second in the Pac-12 in stolen bases with 55, and is second in the conference and 24th in the NCAA in batters hit by pitch (58). Kody Davis is third in the league in on-base percentage (.451), tied for ninth in runs scored (33) and leads the league in times hit by pitch (17). Davis and Dallas Carroll are tied for fifth in the Pac-12 with 12 stolen bases, while Carroll is eighth in the conference in on-base percentage (.429) and tied for fourth in times hit by pitch (11). Wyler Smith ranks seventh in the league in batting average (.354). Cody Scaggari is seventh in the Pac-12 in fewest strikeouts per at-bat, averaging one strikeout per 10.4 at-bats. Brock Duke is tied for ninth in the league with four saves.
Utah recently dropped two out of three to Washington State over the weekend.
USC is 30-12 overall and 11-7 in the Pac-12. The Trojans, ranked 13th in the NCAA by Baseball America and D1Baseball.com, recently dropped two out of three to Oregon State in Corvallis. USC plays Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday before traveling to Salt Lake City to take on the Utes.
