SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Utah sophomore second baseman Hannah Flippen has been named this week's Pac-12 Conference Softball Player of the Week, according to a release from the league office on Monday.
Flippen had one her best offensive performances of the season this past week as she helped guide the Utes to a 4-1 record, which included a 2-1 mark over No. 17/16 California for Utah's first-ever back-to-back series wins over Pac-12 opponents.
The All-American infielder posted a team-best .588 batting average and 1.000 slugging percentage after going 10-for-17 at the plate with a pair of doubles, one triple and one home run. She tallied five runs batted in and scored six runs on the week, as well.
This past Friday, Flippen went 3-for-4 at the dish to help lead Utah to a 12-10 come-from-behind victory over the Golden Bears. With the Utes trailing 9-6 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, Flippen led off the frame with a solo home run and later that inning, after Utah had batted around in the order, she singled home a pair of runs that would eventually become the game-winning runs for the Utes.
Flippen collected at least one hit in all five games this past week and she heads the week with a career-high 14-game hitting streak.
Flippen is the third Utah player to garner Pac-12 weekly honors after both Katie Donovan (Feb. 23) and Miranda Viramontes (Mar. 30) took home Freshman of the Week accolades earlier this season, while becoming just the fourth player in school history to earn either Pac-12 Player or Pitcher of the Week honors. Flippen and Jackie Sweet (Apr. 8, 2013) are the only two players to be named Player of the Week, while both Generra Nielson (Mar. 19, 2012) and Sammy Cordova (May 5, 2013) earned Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week nods.
The Utes, who are 26-14 overall and 4-8 in league play this season, return to action this weekend (Apr. 10-12) continuing league-play against Oregon State in Corvallis, Ore.
