SALT LAKE CITY -- The No. 22-ranked Utah softball team will learn tonight if they earned an at-large bid to the 2015 NCAA Softball Tournament, as the NCAA Division I Softball Selection Committee will reveal the 64-team field tonight, beginning at 8 p.m. MT. The selection show will air live on ESPNU.
The Utes went 34-17 overall and finished fourth in the Pac-12 Conference with a record of 12-11. Utah ranks No. 22 in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll, received votes in the NFCA/USA Today Poll and checked in at No. 26 in the most recent RPI standings.
Utah closed out the 2015 campaign winning 14 of its last 19 contests, won five consecutive Pac-12 series and registered seven wins over top-ranked opponents.
The Utes will be seeking a NCAA Tournament postseason berth for the first time since 2006 and a 13th NCAA Tournament appearance overall. Utah has an all-time record of 16-27 in NCAA postseason play, including a 15-21 record in Regional Tournaments.
There will be 32 NCAA participants receiving automatic bids on Sunday, with the remaining 32 teams earning at-large bids into the tournament. The top 16-seeded teams in the tournament will play host to the regional tournament, which is set to get underway this Friday, May 15. The regional tournament will feature four teams competing in a double-elimination bracket, with the winner of each regional advancing to Super Regionals, where the best-of-three series determines the eight teams that advance to Oklahoma City, Okla., for the Women's College World Series.
