SALT LAKE CITY -- University of Utah senior Kate Dickman has been named this week's Pac-12 Softball Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Dickman (Mission Viejo, Calif.) recorded a hit in all but one at-bat against the No. 20 Washington Huskies this past weekend, going 7-for-8 at the dish for a batting average of .875 with a pair of doubles and one home run. With the final game of the series cancelled due to rain, she finished the weekend scoring four runs, knocking in five, posting a 1.500 slugging percentage and going 1-for-1 in stolen base attempts.
The four-year veteran began with a perfect 3-for-3 outing with three runs scored and three RBI along with a double as Utah posted a 12-1 run-rule victory over the Huskies. She then went 4-for-5 on Friday, posting two RBI and one run scored with a double and a home run. Dickman finished the regular season hitting .448 and set a new school record for doubles in a season with 20 on the year.
Dickman, who earns Pac-12 weekly accolades for the first time this season, became the second Ute player to be named Pac-12 Player of the Week (Hannah Flippen: Apr. 6, Apr. 20) and fifth player overall to earn a conference weekly honor this season. The UTes have had a player earn weekly accolades seven times overall in 2015.
The Utes, ranked No. 22 in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll, earned an at-large bid into the Knoxville Regional and will take on Virgina Tech in the first round at 1:30 p.m. MDT on Friday.
