SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team plays its final home games of the season this week beginning with in-state rival BYU on Tuesday, May 12, at 7:00 p.m. MT.
The game will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks with JB Long and Jerry Kindall calling the action.
Tuesday's game is Youth Night, with activities on the concourse including a photo booth, balloon artist, and local mascots in attendance. The first 250 fans in attendance will receive a Utah baseball pennant flag. Utah continues its season-long baseball card promotion, with the first 250 fans in attendance receiving a Bret Helton baseball card.
Tuesday's game is the third between the two schools this season with the series tied at 1-1 after the first two games. Utah won the first game between the two teams, 9-3, in a rain-shortened contest on March 24. Utah was down 3-2 before a two-RBI single from Max Schuman gave the Utes a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning. The Utes broke the game open in the sixth with five runs before the game was called for rain. Pitcher Dylan Drachler struck out five over 5 1/3 innings of work while Brock Duke earned a save on the mound. In the second game of the series, Utah led 6-4 following a fifth-inning grand slam from Dallas Carroll before BYU scored solo runs in the fifth, seventh and eighth innings to take the lead and go on to a 7-6 win. Cody Scaggari also homered in the contest for the Utes.
The three games account for three total points in the Deseret First Duel rivalry series between Utah and BYU. Utah has already clinched this year's overall title with the score 23-6 with only the baseball points remaining.
BYU (24-22) recently split a pair of games against Saint Mary's College and dropped two out of three at Pacific.
Utah (16-29-1, 7-16-1 Pac-12) is coming off three games against No. Oregon State, dropping the first two games of the series before game three ended in a 2-2 tie after 15 innings due to Utah's travel schedule. The Utes had strong pitching all weekend, which included 8 1/3 scoreless innings of relief in game three from Brock Duke, but struggled on offense. Less than 10 runs were scored during the entire series between both teams. Utah has only had one other tie since 1963, a 3-3 tie against Point Loma in 1997.
Utah is second in the Pac-12 in stolen bases (65) and batters hit by pitch (69).
The Utes play their final Pac-12 home series this weekend against Oregon beginning on Friday, May 15, at 5:00 p.m. MT.
