LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Utah softball team landed four players on the NFCA All-Pacific Region teams, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced Thursday morning.
Sophomore Hannah Flippen was named a first team selection, senior Kate Dickman and freshman Katie Donovan earned second team honors, and junior Kristen Stewart was tabbed a third team selection.
Utah's four all-region selections is tied for second most in program history (1985, 2000). Utah had a school-record five all-region selections back in 1994.
Flippen became the first Ute player to earn back-to-back all-region honors since Diana Phillips did so back in 2007 and 2008 and is the first player to be named to the first team in consecutive seasons in 14 years (Lyndsey Trevis: 2000, 2001). This is the first all-region selection for Dickman, Donovan and Stewart.
Flippen hit .373 for the Utes this season, collecting eight doubles, a pair of triples and seven home runs. She scored 46 runs on the season and drove in 28 runs as well. A staple at second base for the Utes, Flippen recorded a team-high 114 assists and was a part of 21 double plays.
Dickman led the Utes and ranked third in the Pac-12 with a .448 batting average, while collecting a school-record 20 doubles and a team-high nine home runs. She scored a team-high 48 runs, drove in 35 RBI, collected 124 bases and posted a career-high .761 slugging percentage. One of the Pac-12's best defensive outfielders, Dickman had seven assists, which included gunning down three runners at home trying to score.
In just her first season with the Utes, Donovan posted a 16-8 record and recorded four shutouts in her 25 games started. She tallied a 2.58 earned run average, while striking out 141 batters in her 176.2 innings of work this season. Donovan came one out away from tossing a no-hitter in just her second career start, but later came away with the no-hitter when Utah defeated Nevada, 11-0, back on Feb. 20.
Stewart hit .277 with nine doubles, a triple and four home runs this season, while scoring 31 runs and driving in 28 runs, as well. She ranked second on the team with 21 walks and was a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts. Stewart ranked second on the team with 112 assists and was in on nine doubles plays while playing third base for the Utes.
Utah takes on Virginia Tech in Knoxville, Tenn. on Friday, opening the Knoxville Regional at 3:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. MT. The double-elimination tournament also features host Tennessee and Longwood.
