A fourth-round draft pick in 2012, Wagner has gone 5-1 this year in nine starts at double-A Biloxi with a 2.01 ERA and 38 strikeouts. He was a postseason all-star with the Brevard County Manatees last season and was also an all-star in the Arizona Fall League.
Recent former Utes in the majors include C.J. Cron, who has spent parts of the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Angels. Stephen Fife started 16 games for the Dodgers from 2012-14 and Chris Shelton spent five years in the majors (2004-06, 08-09).
Wagner and Cron are two of seven former Utes currently playing in professional baseball.
After starting the season with the Angels, Cron joined the AAA Salt Lake Bees on May 27. He is hitting .467 (7-of-15) with two home runs in three games with the Bees. He hit .204 with one homer in 31 games with the Angels this season.
