- Complete 2015 Pac-12 All-Academic Team
San Francisco, Calif. -- Six Utah softball players were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic teams, the league office announced on Thursday.
Sophomore Hannah Flippen was named to the first team, while both senior Kate Dickman and sophomore Bridget Castro were tabbed second team selections. Junior Kristen Stewart, along with seniors Marissa Mendenhall and Maddy Woodard were honorable mention selections.
"I am extremely proud of these six starting players for the work they have done while leading this team," said Utah head coach Amy Hogue. "They are building a culture of excellence both on the field and in the classroom. We opened the season with 29 consecutive road games before playing a single game at home, so to maintain their grades while also traveling so much makes them very deserving of this award."
The six selections marked Utah's most on the Pac-12 All-Academic teams, surpassing the five selections the Utes received in 2013 and 2014, and it also marks the most selections on an all-academic squad since Utah tallied eight players back in 2008 when the program was still a member of the Mountain West Conference.
This is the third all-academic honor for both Dickman (2nd Team - 2013, 2014) and Mendenhall (HM - 2013, 2014), while Stewart (2nd Team - 2014) notched the second all-academic selection of her career. It was the first all-academic selection for Flippen, Castro and Woodard.
Flippen becomes the fourth Utah player to earn first team honors since the program became a member of the Pac-12, joining Taylor Jordan (2013, 2014), Kayce Nieto (2014) and Hannah Clements (2012).
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
