SALT LAKE CITY - Utah junior third baseman Dallas Carroll recently joined the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League.
The Cape Cod League is recognized as the best amateur summer league in the nation by professional baseball scouts. Players are recruited to play in the 10-team league. In 2014, 276 former CCBL players spent time on a major league roster during the season.
Carroll played his first game with the Red Sox on July 23. He went 1-for-4 in his first start at third against Chatham.
For the Utes last season, Carroll hit .283 and tied for the team lead with 33 RBI. He led Utah and ranked fifth in the Pac-12 with 16 stolen bases (16-for-26). He also led the team in walks (28) and tied for second with a .407 on-base percentage.
Utah's last player in the Cape Cod League was current Los Angeles Angel C.J. Cron, who played for the Cotuit Kettleers in 2010.
