The Utes held a scrimmage against BYU on Saturday and have also held several intersquad scrimmages.
"We had a really good first week of team practice, culminating with a scrimmage against BYU," Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "It was a great day to play against somebody different and gage where we are at this point. There are a lot of things that we have to put in and do, but our guys performed well. We pitched well, we swung the bat ok and we played very good defense. I was pleased with the effort and look forward to comparing that with the UNLV game four weeks from now. There is still so much to be put in. We didn't do any situational hitting on Saturday, so we're going to be putting that in before the UNLV scrimmage. We will also continue to work with the pitchers and their strengths and weaknesses."

Key returners for the Utes include three-year starters Kody Davis (2B), Dallas Carroll (3B), Dalton Carroll (RHP), Cody Scaggari (SS), Wyler Smith (OF) and AJ Young (C). Sophomore pitcher Jayson Rose, who led the Utes in ERA and strikeouts, was an honorable mention All-Pac-12 selection last year.
