SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah baseball team will host 'An Evening with Terry Francona' at the Sheraton Salt Lake City Hotel on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017.
Â
Francona, a longtime friend of Utah head coach
Bill Kinneberg since they played together at Arizona, is making his third appearance at Utah's preseason banquet. He previously spoke at the banquet in 2005 and 2008.
Â
"Terry has been a great friend of the program over the years and we are excited to have him back to share stories from his experiences managing the Indians," Kinneberg said. "The banquet is a fun way to kick off our season and we look forward to another great evening."
Â
Francona was named the American League Manager of the Year for the second time after leading the Cleveland Indians to the 2016 World Series and a 94-win season. In his four years with Cleveland, he has led the team to an American League-leading 352 victories with two postseason appearances.
Â
Francona has 16 years of managerial experience with Philadelphia (1997-2000), Boston (2004-11) and Cleveland (2013-16). He led the Boston Red Sox to two World Series titles (2004, 2007). His teams have put together 12 consecutive winning seasons, the longest streak by any active manager, and his 1,381 career victories (.533 winning percentage) ranks 30th all-time and fifth among active managers.
Â
The evening will feature a reception at 6:00 p.m. with dinner beginning at 7:00 p.m., followed by an auction after the program. Tickets for the event are $100 per person or $1,000 per table of 10.
