SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah head men's basketball coach
Larry Krystkowiak announced Utah's 2017 recruiting class on Wednesday, featuring Jaxon Brenchley and Branden Carlson. Both Brenchley and Carlson signed National Letters of Intent to join the Utah men's basketball program.

" They are two of the best players in the state of Utah and have also proven they are great players on the national scene. Furthermore, both are terrific young men and exceptional students who will make the University of Utah community proud. We look forward to them joining our program following their respective missions."

Brenchley is the No. 3-ranked player from the state of Utah according to ESPN following a prep career that included playing three years at Mountain Crest High School. Brenchley will play his senior season at the newly formed Ridgeline High School this season.

Brenchley was a Utah Class 5A All-State Honorable Mention selection after registering 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists as a junior at Mountain Crest last season. He shot 47 percent from the field and 49 percent from beyond the three-point line, while connecting on 71 percent of his shots from the charity stripe. As a sophomore, he averaged 17 points, 6.5 rebounds and a little more than five assists per game on the way to earning All-State Second Team honors.

Brenchley picked Utah after receiving offers from Utah State, Santa Clara, Penn, Cornell, UC Davis and Utah Valley. He will serve an LDS Church mission following high school graduation and will enroll at the U in 2019.

"Jaxon is a do-it-all type guard who brings skill, toughness and work ethic to the court," said Krystkowiak. "He is a natural leader and is always looking to get better."

Carlson is a four-star rated forward and is the No. 1-ranked recruit from the state of Utah according to ESPN. Carlson is a top-100 player in the nation according to ESPN, Scout.com and Rivals.com

Carlson helped lead Bingham to a 24-2 overall record, which included defeating Copper Hills High School to win the Utah Class 5A State Championship this past March. Carlson shot better than 63 percent from the field and a 70 percent effort from the free throw line last season. He also managed to register 15 blocked shots on the season.

Carlson picked Utah after receiving offers from UCLA, Stanford, BYU, UNLV, Utah State, UC Davis, Santa Clara and Weber State. He will also serve an LDS Church mission following high school graduation and will enroll at the U in 2019.

"Branden is a 6-11, multi-skilled player who has a great combination of size, hands, running and jumping abilities," said Krystkowiak. "His tremendous work ethic and determination are to be commended and will be a great asset to our program as we move forward."
