SAN FRANCISCO - Utah Soccer continued to set new program standards in 2016, this time in the classroom, as a record three student-athletes were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic First Team.
Max Flom (4.00, Political Science),
July Mathias (3.96 Health Promotion and Education) and
Hailey Skolmoski (3.88, Education) were all recognized by the conference for their outstanding work.
Utah had three Pac-12 All-Academic First Team honorees total from 2011-15 (Lauren Porter, Sarah Duncan and
Megan Trabert).
Nine more student-athletes received honorable mention status this year, giving Utah a total of 12 honorees, second to the 17 selections in 2013. Since joining the Pac-12, Utah has 69 all-academic honorees.
Katie Rogers, a two-time second team and honorable mention selection earned her fourth academic award from the Pac-12. Meanwhile, seniors
Taylor Slattery and
Cabria Turang were recognized for a third-straight year.
Janie Kearl, a second team choice in 2015, was honored for a second year in a row along with
Mikayla Elmer and
Natalie Vukic.
Ella Ballstaedt,
Eden Jacobsen and
Paola van der Veen were recognized by the conference for a first time.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and appear in at least 50 percent of their team's games.
