Prior to Utah: Van der Veen was a member of the Dutch youth national teams since 2008 and was invited to train with the senior squad. She suited up for the Dutch U-17 team at the European Championships and the U-19 team during its Euro qualifying matches.
In 2012, van der Veen joined ADO den Haag in The Hague, Netherlands. Her first season saw the squad capture the KNVB Cup as well as second-place finish in the BeNe League Orange. In her final season, she was named team captain and led ADO den Haag to the KNVB Cup semifinals as well as a fourth-place finish In the reconfigured BeNe League.
