SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team enters this week with a midweek game against BYU on Tuesday, March 15 before beginning the conference season at 19th-ranked Oregon this weekend.
Tuesday's game will be televised on BYUTV beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Utah (4-10) played two games of a scheduled three-game series last weekend against Saint Mary's, splitting the two games. Dalton Carroll allowed just one hit in the 2-0 victory in the second game, which was shortened by rain.
"It rained virtually the whole time we were there so it was unfortunate we didn't get the Sunday ball game in, but at least we got two," Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "Dalton Carroll was really good this past weekend. Jayson Rose left some pitches up that they hit pretty hard, but he competed and battled his way through I was proud of him for that."
The Utes will have a full bullpen available for Tuesday's game against BYU, with Josh Lapiana getting the start.
"We are set up pretty well for this week pitching-wise, so we'll see," Kinneberg said. "We've been playing four games a week up to this point so we are used to that. It will be good to play close to home."
BYU is 15-1 on the season. The Cougars have wins over Saint Louis, Samford, Kansas, Utah Valley and Niagra, with the only loss coming to Samford.
The three games against BYU accounts for three total points in the Deseret First Duel rivalry series between Utah and BYU. BYU currently leads the series 15-14. The Utes have wins in men's basketball, gymnastics, women's swimming and diving and women's tennis.
