SALT LAKE CITY - No. 58 Utah men's tennis improved to 16-3 with a win over Loyola Marymount on Saturday, 5-1.
In doubles play, Egbert Weverink and Freddie McGeehan defeated Luke Bohuslav and Lukas Moenter, 6-4 at the No. 3 position. Dan Little and Matt Cowley then topped Joat Farah and Errol Smith, 7-6 to secure the point.
Cowley made short work of Charles Boyce at the No. 1 singles spot, 6-2, 6-2 to go up 2-0. Errol Smith topped Dan Little to provide a little hope for LMU but Parker McGuiness rolled through Bohuslav, 6-1, 6-3 to make it a 3-1 lead for the Utes.
Weverink was able to rebound from a 7-6 loss in the first set to Farah, to take the match, with 6-3, 6-1 wins in the following sets.That would seal the match for the Utes but David Micevski added a victory at the No. 2 position over Cristobal Rivera, 7-6, 6-4.
Utah opens Pac-12 play next weekend with Cal and Stanford. The Utes host the Golden Bears on Friday at 3 p.m. and the Cardinal on Sunday at noon.
