SALT LAKE CITY - Utah senior guard Brandon Taylor has been named to the Pac-12 All-Academic First Team for a third straight season, the league office announced on Thursday. To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
Taylor, who was also named the league's Scholar-Athlete of they Year, was named first team selection following his sophomore and junior seasons, as well. He joins Jeremy Olsen as the only two Utes to earn Pac-12 All-Academic First Team honors on three different occasions since Utah joined the league in 2011.
The Los Angeles native averaged 9.7 points, while leading the team with 140 assists and 61 steals on the year. He shot better than 39-percent from the field, which included a 34-percent effort from beyond the three-point line.
Joining Taylor on the first team was Oregon's Casey Benson, Stanford's Dorian Pickens and Washington's State's Josh Hawkinson and Junior Longrus.
Taylor's 3.4 cumulative GPA ranked second-highest among first team members. He majored in psychology and is set to receive his degree at the end of the Spring semester.
