SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team faces in-state rival BYU on Tuesday, April 12, at 6:00 p.m. MT in Provo. The contest will be televised on BYUTV.
The meeting is the second of three games between the two teams. BYU won game one back on March 15, 6-0. Utah was led at the plate by Ellis Kelly, who went 3-for-4 on the night. Both BYU and Utah each had 10 hits, but the Utes would strand 11 runners on base throughout the night. The final game of the series will take place in Salt Lake City on May 17.
The three games against BYU accounts for three total points in the Deseret First Duel rivalry series between Utah and BYU.
BYU is 25-5 on the season and ranked 21st in the latest NCBWA poll.
Utah remains tied with California for the Pac-12 lead this week with an 8-4 conference record (11-17 overall). The Utes dropped their first two games against USC last weekend before exploding for 14 runs in the game three win.
The Utes are tied for the league lead with 30 double plays and tied for 15th in the NCAA in double plays per game (1.07). Utah is tied for second in the league with six pickoffs. Jayson Rose leads the Pac-12 with 59 strikeouts and Dylan Drachler is tied for fifth in the league with five saves.
The Utes take a break from conference play this week to face UC Riverside in a three-game series beginning Friday, April 15, at 7:00 p.m. All three games will be aired on the Pac-12 Network.
