SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team take a break from conference play this week to face UC Riverside in a three-game series beginning Friday, April 15, at 7:00 p.m. Game two is on Saturday, April 16, at 7:00 p.m. with game three on Sunday, April 17, at 2:00 p.m.
All three games will be aired on the Pac-12 Network. The first game of the series will be available on radio at ESPN 700 AM.
Fans wearing black on Friday will receive free admission as part of Utah's Black Friday promotion. Saturday is National Bat Appreciation Day and the first 200 fans in attendance will receive a giant inflatable bat.
"We need to bounce back and again play to our capabilities in all three phases, hitting, pitching and fielding," Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "UCR is a good ball club and although it's not a Pac-12 weekend, we still need to prepare well and play well."
The three-game series is the beginning of a three-week homestand, facing UC Riverside, Oregon State and UCLA over the next three weekends.
Utah remains tied with California for the Pac-12 lead this week with an 8-4 conference record (11-18 overall).
The Utes are second in the league with 30 double plays and 20th in the NCAA in double plays per game (1.03). Utah is tied for second in the league with six pickoffs. Jayson Rose leads the Pac-12 with 59 strikeouts and Dylan Drachler is tied for fifth in the league with five saves.
UC Riverside is 13-17 overall and 3-3 in the Big West this year. The Highlanders recently went 1-2 against UC Irvine. UC Riverside has played two Pac-12 teams this year, going 1-1 against Arizona and 1-2 against Washington.
