SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team faces in-state rival Utah Valley for the third and final time this season on Tuesday, April 19, at 6:00 p.m. MT.
The contest will be aired on the Pac-12 Network with JB Long and Wes Clements calling the action.
Utah is 0-2 against Utah Valley this season. In game one, the contest was tied 4-4 through six innings and although Utah took a 6-4 lead with a pair of runs in the seventh, UVU came back in the top of the eighth to score three runs and take the lead en route to the 7-6 win. Dallas Carroll led Utah at the plate, going 4-for-5 on the night. Game two saw Utah lead 4-1 through the top of the fifth before Utah Valley took the lead and pulled ahead with a two-run fifth, three-run sixth and four-run seventh inning in the 10-4 win. Kellen Marruffo hit a two-run home run and drove in three of Utah's four runs in the game.
Junior Hunter Rodriguez is scheduled to make his first career start on Tuesday for Utah.
Utah stepped out of conference last weekend to face UC Riverside and stands in sole possession of the Pac-12 lead entering the week with an 8-4 conference record (.667 winning percentage) ahead of California and Washington (9-6, .600 winning percentage). The Utes return to conference play this weekend against 14th-ranked Oregon State with the three-game series beginning on Thursday, April 21. Utah is 13-19 overall.
The Utes are tied for the Pac-12 lead with 34 double plays this season and are tied for 14th in the NCAA with 1.06 double plays per game. Utah is tied for second in the league with six pickoffs and 15 runners caught stealing is tied for third in the conference.
Pitchers have surrendered just 13 home runs, which is the fourth-fewest in the league. Dalton Carroll is one of seven pitchers in the conference (min. one inning per game) who has not allowed a home run this year.
The Utes are fifth in the Pac-12 with 33 stolen bases, led by seven each from DaShawn Keirsey, Jr. and Kody Davis, which ties them for seventh in the league. Utah is sixth in the league with a .350 team on-base percentage.
Utah Valley is 20-16 overall and 7-5 in the WAC. The Wolverines took two of three from New Mexico State over the weekend.
