Due to inclement weather forecasted for the area on Saturday, April 23, Utah and Oregon State will play a doubleheader on Friday, April 22. Game one will begin at 2:00 p.m. with game two beginning at 6:00 p.m. Any further schedule changes will be posted first to twitter at @Utahbaseball.
SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team returns to Pac-12 play this weekend against 14th-ranked Oregon State with the three-game series beginning Thursday, April 21 at 6:00 p.m.
The series continues on Friday, April 22, with a doubleheader and games beginning at 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Thursday is Concert Night and a live band will be on hand to provide entertainment throughout the game. Fans wearing black on Friday will receive free admission as part of Utah's Black Friday promotion. Friday is also Super Hero Night and the first 250 kids in attendance will receive a free `Go Utes' super hero cape. A face painter will also be on hand.
Utah stepped out of conference last weekend to face UC Riverside and stands in sole possession of the Pac-12 lead entering the week with an 8-4 conference record (.667 winning percentage) ahead of California and Washington (9-6, .600 winning percentage).
The Utes rank fourth among teams in league games with a .256 batting average, while Utah's 4.15 ERA in league games is fifth in the conference.
Utah is in the middle of a 10-game home stand. The Utes host UCLA next weekend.
Thursday starter Jayson Rose leads the Pac-12 with 67 strikeouts. He is tied for fourth with five wins, ranks ninth in opponent batting average (.199) and 10th in ERA (2.48). He has a 1.88 ERA in Pac-12 games this year.
The Utes are tied for the Pac-12 lead with 34 double plays this season and entered the week tied for 14th in the NCAA with 1.06 double plays per game. The Utes are third in the Pac-12 with 37 stolen bases, led by eight each from DaShawn Keirsey, Jr. and Kody Davis, which ties them for fifth in the league.
The Utes and Beavers faced each other in Arizona earlier this year in a non-conference game. Oregon State won 10-2 behind an eight-run fifth inning. Andre Jackson was 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Utah while Cody Scaggari drove in both of Utah's runs.
Oregon State is ranked 14th in the latest D1Baseball.com poll. The Beavers are 24-9 on the year and 6-6 in the Pac-12. OSU recently defeated Oregon, 11-10, on Monday in a non-conference game, and dropped two of three against Washington State last weekend. The Beavers lead the Pac-12 with a .297 team batting average.
