ON DECK
Utah heads to Seattle for a three-game set against Washington. The Utes and Huskies open with a Friday game followed by a Saturday contest at the same time (7 p.m. PT). Sunday is the finale at noon and all the games will be live on the Pac-12 Networks
UTAH NOTES
- Utah has won 27 of its last 35 contests and owns the No. 24 RPI in the nation. Eight of the Pac-12's nine teams are ranked in the top 40
- Midway through Pac-12 play, Utah leads the league in batting (.321), slugging (.541) and stolen bases (16), ranks second in homers (15) and third in on-base percentage (.404).
- Utah currently ranks third in the Pac-12 with a 2.54 earned run average. The Utes have only allowed 13 homers, fewest in the Pac-12, and 108 runs, second fewest in the conference.
- Defensively, the Utes are second in the Pac-12 with a .973 fielding percentage. Anissa Urtez leads the league in fielding assists and both Kristen Stewart and Hannah Flippen rank among the top five.
THe WEEK THAT WAS
- Utah concluded a three-game sweep of Stanford on Sunday with a 9-0 victory. Ally Dickman cleared the bases with a three-run double, while Shelby Pacheco and Kay Kay Fronda each drove in a pair. Katie Donovan and Miranda Viramontes combined on Utah's 12th shutout of the season.
- In the second game of a Friday doubleheader, Utah built a big lead and then held off the Cardinal, 8-6. Fronda was a homer short of the cycle and scored twice while Kristen Stewart broke the game open with a three-run double.
- Utah got offensive contributions from almost everyone in their lineup during an earlier 13-0 dismantling of the Cardinal. Anissa Urtez had three hits, including her second homer of the season, scored three times and drove in four. Her infield mate Hannah Flippen tallied three hits and scored three times.
UTE PAIR HONORED AGAIN BY PAC-12
A pair of Utah Softball players were honored Monday by the Pac-12 as Anissa Urtez was named Player of the Week and Ally Dickman was named Freshman of the Week.
Urtez led the team in a number of categories including hits, runs scored and driven in as the Utes went 4-0. She also slugged. 714 and her second home run of the season set the tone in the 13-0 opening win over Stanford.
Urtez is sixth in the Pac-12 with a .414 batting average and paces the conference with 13 doubles. Her 58 hits are third in the league and defensively, she leads the way with 104 fielding assists.
Urtez was a Pac-12 All-Defensive Team selection last year and becomes Utah's second-straight Player of the Week after Kay Kay Fronda was honored on Apr. 18.
Dickman led the team this week with a .600 batting average, a .900 slugging percentages and three doubles. She also accumulated five runs batted in as she notched three multi-hit games.
In conference play, she currently ranks fourth with a .419 batting average while leading the league with seven doubles. She also ranks seventh with 14 runs batted in.
This is Dickman's second Freshman of the Week award as she was honored back on March 22.
UTAH DUO EARNS PAC-12 WEEKLY AWARDS
Katie Donovan was named Pitcher of the Week and Kay Kay Fronda was selected Player of the Week by the conference offices on Apr. 18
Donovan earned a pair of wins against Weber State and No. 22 ASU. She also notched the save for the Utes in a 3-1 win over the Sun Devils.
Donovan's 1.90 ERA puts her second in the Pac-12, with opponents batting .228 (5th). She also rates fifth in innings pitched and sixth in strikeouts.
Donovan was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week twice last season and this was her first Pitcher of the Week award. She became the first Utah pitcher since Sammy Cordova (May 5, 2014) to win this honor from the conference.
Fronda led the Utes in a number of categories including hits (4), batting (.667), slugging (1.500), on-base percentage (.571) and total bases (9)
She became Utah's first Player of the Week this season. Junior second baseman Hannah Flippen was a two-time winner of the award last season.
FLIPPEN NAMED ESPN'S NATIONAL POW
Utah junior second baseman Hannah Flippen was named the NCAA National Player of the Week by ESPNW on March 30.
Flippen, a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American as a freshman, is a two-time NFCA All-Pacific Region selection as well as a two-time All-Pac-12 honoree and a Pac-12 All-Academic selection.
She currently ranks among the top five in the Pac-12 in a number of categories including home runs, runs scored, on-base percentage, stolen bases, total bases slugging, walks and batting average.
In Pac-12 play, she leads the league with a .564 batting average, a 1.205 slugging percentage, a .696 on-base percentage, 47 total bases and 17 walks. She is also second in runs scored (19), hits (22) and third in homers (7).
