ON DECK
Utah is back on the road for a Pac-12 series at California this weekend. The teams will play three afternoon affairs, Friday at 3 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at noon.
UTAH NOTES
- Utah has won 19 of its last 26 contests and owns the No. 25 RPI in the nation. Eight of the Pac-12's nine teams are ranked in the top 40
- After two weeks of Pac-12 play, Utah leads the league in slugging (.583), homers (9) and stolen bases (11) while ranking second in batting (.337) and on-base percentage (.431)
- Utah currently ranks second in the Pac-12 with a 2.44 earned run average. The Utes have only allowed 10 homers and 85 runs this season, fewest in the Pac-12
- The Utes did not allow an earned run over 29 innings at the DeMarini Desert Classic, going 5-0
- Katie Donovan's 1.80 ERA puts her second in the Pac-12, with opponents batting .215 (4th). She also rates fifth in innings pitched and sixth in strikeouts.
- Defensively, the Utes are second in the Pac-12 with a .972 fielding percentage. Kristen Stewart and Anissa Urtez are first and second in fielding assists with Hannah Flippen ranking fifth
LAST TIME OUT
- In game one at Arizona, Miranda Viramontes limited the 'Cats to two hits, but UA picked up the win 3-1 as Hannah Flippen homered for the Utes
- In game two, the Utes plated five runs in extra innings to win 7-3. Flippen hit her 10th homer and doubled, Delilah Pacheco scored to put Utah ahead in the ninth and Ally Dickman had a multi-hit game
- In game three, Utah let a four-run lead slip away as Heather Bowen drove in a pair of runs and Bridget Castro collected a pair of hits, including her fourth double of the season.
FLIPPEN NAMED ESPN'S NATIONAL POW
Utah junior second baseman Hannah Flippen was named the NCAA National Player of the Week by ESPNW on March 30.
Flippen, a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American as a freshman, is a two-time NFCA All-Pacific Region selection as well as a two-time All-Pac-12 honoree and a Pac-12 All-Academic selection.
She currently ranks third among Pac-12 players in home runs and total bases, fourth in walks, fifth in slugging and seventh in runs scored.
In Pac-12 play, she leads the league with a .714 batting average, a 2.000 slugging percentage, an. 833 on-base percentage, 10 walks and five home runs.
STEPPING UP THEIR SCHEDULE
The Utes have played 13 contests against teams ranked in the top 35 of the latest USA Softball Poll
In fact, 16 of Utah's 33 games this season have been played against teams with a top-50 RPI.
Utah will play nine former NCAA Champions during the regular season, most of any other team in the nation.
URTEZ TABBED COLLEGE SPORTS MADNESS POW
Utah shortstop Anissa Urtez was honored on March 1 for her exceptional performances at the Mary Nutter Classic.
Urtez batted .565 in six games, leading the team in hits (13) and runs (6) while racking up a .609 slugging percentage.
She currently sits second in the Pac-12 with 46 hits and 11 doubles. She also leads the league with four stolen bases in just six conference games.
DICKMAN NAMED FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Utah Softball's Ally Dickman was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week by the conference offices on Mar. 21.
Dickman batted .333 and slugged .833 in five games as the Utes went 4-1, including a sweep of No. 24 Oregon State. The freshman drove in six, including the decisive two-run double in the opener over the Beavers.
For the season, Dickman is batting .360 and has featured in all but one contest for the Utes. She is second on the team with seven
doubles and a .560 slugging percentage, while also placing fourth on the squad with 18 runs batted in.
BOWEN BRINGING THEM IN
Heather Bowen currently ranks fourth in Pac-12 Play with 10 runs batted in. She was aided by a massive seven-RBI outing against No. 24 Oregon State, a Pac-12 single game high for 2016.
HILBURN HELPING OUT
Hailey Hilburn leads the Pac-12 with 12 relief appearances already this season and her two saves are also tops in the conference after notching one in the 7-3 at No. 18 Arizona
The freshman has also come through at the plate, belting a three-run pinch-hit home run, the first of her collegiate career, in a win over No. 24 Oregon State.
SHUT 'EM DOWN SHELBY
An All-Defensive Player for the Pac-12 last season, Shelby Pacheco continues to one of the most feared backstops. This season, she has thrown out 10 baserunners, which puts her atop the league leaderboard.
