SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team heads to Southern California to continue Pac-12 play against USC, with the three-game series beginning Friday, April 8 and going through Sunday, April 10.
Game one begins at 6:00 p.m. PT with Saturday's game two starting at 2:00 p.m. PT. Game three starts at 1:00 p.m. PT.
Utah is currently leading the Pac-12 conference with a 7-2 Pac-12 record (10-15 overall), tying for the league's best record with California. The Utes are ranked 30th in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll. The Utes are coming off their first-ever sweep of a Pac-12 series, winning three-straight over Arizona.
"We just have to prepare well this week, hope that we stay healthy and continue to play well," Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said.
In Pac-12 games this season, Utah has struck out 78 batters, which leads the league in Pac-12 play. The Utes are hitting .254 in league games and have a 3.65 ERA in league games, ranking fourth in the conference in both categories. Utah is holding Pac-12 opponents to a .251 batting average. Individually, Jayson Rose has a 1.66 ERA in league games, while four of Dylan Drachler's five saves on the season have come against conference foes. DaShawn Keirsey, Jr. is among the league leaders in hits and runs scored in Pac-12 games.
Overall, the Utes are second in the Pac-12 with 27 double plays and rank 13th in the country in double plays per game (1.08). Utah pitchers have surrendered just nine home runs, tied for third-fewest in the Pac-12. Rose leads the Pac-12 with 55 strikeouts overall.
USC is 13-14 overall and 3-3 in the Pac-12. The Trojans went 1-2 against Stanford last weekend and beat Pepperdine in 10 innings on Tuesday night.
