SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team hits the road for the first time in three weeks this weekend, facing Washington State in a three-game series beginning Saturday, May 7, at 7:00 p.m. PT.
The series continues on Sunday, May 8, at 4:00 p.m. PT and Monday, May 9, at 7:00 p.m. PT. All three games will be televised on the Pac-12 Network with Rich Burke and Scott Erickson calling the action.
Utah is coming off its fourth Pac-12 series win of the season (Oregon, Arizona State, Arizona, UCLA) and is tied for the Pac-12 lead with Washington (11-7, .611 winning percentage).
The Utes rank sixth in the league with a .267 batting average and are third overall in Pac-12 games with a .272 average. Utah is also sixth in the Pac-12 in on-base percentage (.358) which increases to .362 in Pac-12 games (third overall). The Utes on-base percentage is buoyed by a league-high 56 hit batters.
Utah is second in the Pac-12 with 37 double plays. Hunter Simmons is second in the conference with 29 double plays while Cody Scaggari is tied for third with 27 double plays.
Pitchers have allowed just 15 home runs, which is tied for second fewest in the league. Dalton Carroll is one of three pitchers who has not allowed a home run this year (min. one inning/gm). The Utes lead the league with 12 pickoffs with Josh Lapiana recording a Pac-12 high four picks.
Jayson Rose leads the league with 79 strikeouts and ranks eighth in the league with a 2.69 ERA. Dylan Drachler is tied for fifth in the league with six saves, with five of those saves coming in Pac-12 play.
Utah is tied for fourth in the league with 42 stolen bases. DaShawn Keirsey, Jr. and Kody Davis are tied for fourth in the conference with nine stolen bases.
Washington State is 7-14 in the Pac-12 and 14-25 overall. The Cougars have a series win over Oregon State this year and recently dropped two of three to Oregon.
