SALT LAKE CITY - Utah freshman baseball player DaShawn Keirsey, Jr. has been named the Pac-12 Baseball Player of the Week for May 23-29.
Keirsey hit .467 (7-of-15) over three games against Washington, including going 7-for-10 with seven RBI in the final two games of the series to give Utah the series win and outright Pac-12 title. He went 3-for-5 with four RBI in game two of the series, including an inside-the-park home run. Keirsey drove in three runs in a 4-for-5 performance in game three of the series, including scoring Utah's first run of the game.
This is Keirsey's first career weekly accolade and the third all-time for the Utes. Hunter Simmons earned the honor earlier this year and Dallas Carroll was selected in 2013.
Keirsey is tied for sixth in the Pac-12 with 11 stolen bases this year. He has scored 28 runs in Pac-12 games, which led the league, and his 40 hits in league games was fifth in the conference. For the year, he is hitting .312 with nine doubles.
After winning its first Pac-12 Championship, Utah will travel to Oxford, Mississippi, to begin the NCAA Championship. The Utes will face Ole Miss on Friday, June 3, at 7:00 p.m. CT.
