Dalton Carroll was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 21st round of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft on Saturday afternoon. Â

Carroll went 5-7 for the Utes as a senior this season with a 5.04 ERA. He finished second on the team with 49 strikeouts. Carroll surrendered just two home runs this season, which is tied for second in the Pac-12. He had Pac-12 wins over UCLA and Washington State this season and recorded a season-high eight strikeouts against Arizona State. Carroll pitched a complete game against the Bruins, throwing 146 pitches. He threw 7 1/3 innings of Utah's shutout of Houston Baptist.

Carroll played in 62 career games for the Utes with 52 starts. He recorded 184 career strikeouts and had a 4.77 ERA. Other career highlights include a career-high nine strikeouts against UCLA in 2014 and scoring the game-winning run as a pinch runner against BYU in 2014. Carroll is a two-time honorable mention Pac-12 all-academic team pick.

Also selected in the draft was signee Zack Trageton, picked in the sixth round by Tampa Bay. Trageton has until July 15 to decide whether to sign professionally or attend college. Â

Utah won the Pac-12 Championship with a 19-11 league record, reaching the NCAA Championship for the first time since 2009.
