SALT LAKE CITY - In the annual Red & White Scrimmage at Ute Field this evening, it was the White Team coming out on top, 4-2.
"It was exciting to be back at Ute Field for a night game," head coach Rich Manning said. "We had some really good performances and after 10 days of training, we think we have laid a really good foundation for this season. We will now reset and get ready for our opener against Weber State in six days."
The teams played 10v10 for 70 minutes as the newcomers got their first taste of playing under the home lights. Freshman
Ella Ballstaedt opened the scoring with a shot from the right side of the 18-yard box to push the White Team in front.
Meanwhile, the returning players were also excited to get back on to the pitch and make an impact. That was evident when
Cabria Turang pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area and with one touch, finished to double the lead.
The Red Team got going when
Paola van der Veen made a late run from her midfield position and struck to halve the deficit. Van der Veen assisted on the equalizer when her corner found the head of freshman
Tavia Leachman. The defender smashed it home to send the teams to halftime all tied up.
In the second half, Turang notched her second of the night when she snuck one over the line to give the White Team a 3-2 advantage.
Natalie Vukic added the insurance goal later in the period for the final tally.
