Ute sophomore moves on
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. – Sophomore David Micevski (MKD) defeated 16th-seeded Nikita Matveyko (RUS) 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the second round of the qualifying draw at the F30 Futures event.
Micevski started slow, lost his service game and was down 1-3 before finding his groove. After making some minor adjustments, the Macedonian managed to win 11 of the next 14 games to cruise to a straight-set victory.
In the second round the Ute will face Sean Robles (USA) in a match scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Los Caballeros Sport Village.
Freshman Slava Shainyan (RUS) couldn't emulate Micevski's performance and came up short in a closely contested match against highly-ranked American Keegan Smith, 5-7, 5-7.
