SALT LAKE CITY – The men's tennis team closed the first day of the Utah Intercollegiate with six wins in singles play and a pair of doubles victories.
Egbert Weverink and
Slava Shainyan were both 3-0 on the day to pace the Utes.

The competition started with doubles play as Weverink and
Joe Woolley rolled to a 6-2 win over Stefan Cooper and Kris Van Wyk of Weber State, 6-2. Shainyan and newcomer Randy Cory had a more difficult time, but still triumphed over Hou-En Chen and Cesary Walkusz, 7-6

Singles play began with Shainyan beating Kostya Nesterenko of Nevada, 7-5, 6-2 and Weverink defeating Jeremy Merville, 7-5, 6-3. Woolley was able to win in three sets over Peter O'Donovan, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 and
Chase Stoner rallied for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Dylan Levitt.

Later in the day, Weverink was victorious again beating O'Donovan, 6-2, 6-4. Shainyan also stayed unbeaten with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Robert Margitfalvi.
