SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Intercollegiate closed today with the Utes capturing a pair of singles and doubles titles.
Slava Shainyan won the "A" flight singles title with newcomer Randy Cory capturing the "C" flight. The two Utes also combined to win the "B" flight doubles crown with
Joe Woolley and
Egbert Weverink capturing the "A" flight doubles title.
Weverink and Woooley sealed the top flight doubles title with a 7-5 win over Sam Serrano and Jose Carvajal of Utah State. Shainyan and Cory got their day started with a 6-4 win over Valdemar Holm and Sergiu Bucur to give Utah its second doubles crown.
In the morning singles matches, Cory earned a 6-2, 6-4 win over Hou-En Chen of Weber State and Weverink knocked off Bo-Han Li, 7-5, 6-4.
In the afternoon session, Woolley picked up a singles victory over Li, 6-4, 6-2 and then rallied for a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 over Felipe Acosta of Utah State.
Chase Stoner would also get on the board with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Nick Werner of Weber State.
Utah has the week off before driving down to Provo for the ITA Regionals, staring October 16.
