SCOUTING PRAIRIE VIEW A&M
The Panthers are in its second full season under head coach Byron Smith. Smith led PVAMU to a 13-20 overall record last season, which included a 10-8 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The Panthers would go onto finish in a tie for third place in the SWAC, while reaching the quarterfinals of the SWAC Tournament.

Key returners from last season's squad include forward Zachary Hamilton, who scored 15.1 points, pulled down 4.1 rebounds and shot 40.0 percent from three-point range, along with guard Troy Thompson, who tallied 10.2 ppg, 1.9 rpg and a 42.0 three-point shooting percentage.

Overall, four of last season's starters return to the court for the Panthers in 2017-18, which also includes J.D. Wallace (5.2 ppg) and Shay'rone Jett (6.6 ppg).

The Panthers open the 2017-18 season in Salt Lake City, which marks the first of 13 straight contests away from home. PVAMU will not host a home contest until Friday, Dec. 29. PVAMU's tour of the country also includes trips to Portland, Las Vegas, Honolulu, College Station, Texas, Tulsa, Okla., Houston and Albuquerque - to name a few.

SERIES HISTORY
Utah leads the all-time series with a 1-0 mark after downing the Panthers, 92-60, at the Huntsman Center this past December. The Utes shot nearly 60 percent from the field and 44 percent from beyond the three-point line the last time these two teams met.
