SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah women's track and field team is set to compete at the Jackson's Invitational in Boise, Idaho. Hosted by Boise State, the two-day meet will be held this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3-4, at the Jacksons Indoor Track. Competition for the Utes is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. MT on Friday with the 60-meter dash.
Â
"It is a Friday, Saturday meet so we will have kids competing on two different days. Mostly sprints, jumps, and hurdlers will be the main proportion of our team going," said head coach
Kyle Kepler. "We will have a few distance runners that didn't get the chance to run at the UW Invite get some more experience in an extra race or two."
Â
Utah will start off Friday's competition in the 60-meter dash with freshman
Holly Stallman. In her first collegiate competition two weeks ago at the Bronco Invitational, Stallman broke into the top-10 list in the indoor 60-meter dash, trying for the fifth fastest time in school history.
Â
Competing for the Utes in the 60-meter hurdles will be junior
Madison Lanford, sophomore
Lauren McCluskey, and freshman
Piper Wehrli.
Â
Lanford, Stallman, Wehrli, and freshman
Ann Wingeleth will be featured in the long jump. Wingeleth is looking to continue the momentum in the long jump from the Bronco Invitational, where she posted the second-best mark in Utah indoor history with a jump of 19'8.75".
Â
The 3000-meter run will include senior
Dana Snell, sophomores
Hannah Allred and
Jade Mulvey, and freshman
Ashley Licata. McCluskey and Stallman will conclude action for Utah on Friday with the 200-meter dash.
Â
Beginning Saturday's events, Lanford will start things off for the Utes in the shot put at 11:30 a.m. MT and junior
Dakota Grossman will compete in the mile run at 11:35 a.m. MT.
Â
Sophomore
Eliza Hansen, freshman
Suzannah Stark, McCluskey, and Wehrli will be featured in the high jump. Wingeleth will also compete in the triple jump.
Â
Senior
Alissa Atisme, junior
Grace Englund, freshman
Brooke Martin, and junior
Mesa Weidle will compete in the 400-meter dash. Featured in the 800-meter run will be freshmen
Sarah Newton and
Melissa Taggart. Utah will also compete in the 4x400 relay.
Â
"We are looking forward to seeing if after a week off we will see the training effect happen. Beyond that, we have a number of kids who are trying to make a name for themselves and trying to get out there and have a breakthrough and get themselves in a position to perform at a higher level to be able to make the MPSF meet at the end of the season," Kepler explained.
Â
"It is another opportunity. The competition at this meet will be much, much more challenging than it was two weeks ago. It almost always is and it is a really good meet. We are looking for a great weekend," Kepler said.
