CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Utah Runnin' Utes (17-10, 8-7) dropped a Pac-12 Conference road game to the Oregon State Beavers (5-23, 1-14), falling 68-67 Sunday evening at Gill Coliseum.
OSU closed the game with a 14-6 run and Stephen Thompson's lay-up with 10 seconds left in the game proved to be the game winner.
Despite battling back from a 10-point deficit in the first half, Utah's offense went cold down the stretch and the team made just two of its final eight shot attempts of the game. Junior
Kyle Kuzma put Utah up 60-50 with 5:04 left in the second half, but the Beavers countered at the other end with a three-pointer.
The Beavers would go on a 10-1 run to tie the game at 64-all before a three-pointer from Kuzma – his second of the game – put the Utes back up 67-64. Thompson later scored OSU's final four points, including the game-winner, on the way to a game-high 31 points on the night.
Kuzma led the Utes with 19 points and junior
David Collette added 13 for the visiting Utah squad. Senior
Gabe Bealer game the Utes a lift off the bench, knocking down three of his five three-point attempts for nine points on the night.
Utah shot 51 percent from the field and limited OSU to 45 percent, but after shooting just 33 percent in the first half, OSU tallied a 57 percent effort in the final period.
