Barrera Named Finalist for NFCA Freshman of the Year

Ute newcomer leads the team in runs scored
SALT LAKE CITY - Utah's Alyssa Barrera has been named a finalist for the 2017 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year award.
The Utes are in Tempe tomorrow night for a three-game series with Arizona State. First pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m. MT
Barrera was one 25 players selected from a national pool that includes seven Pac-12 student-athletes. Barrera currently ranks third in the conference and paces the Utes with 38 runs scored. She is also one of the five toughest players to strikeout with just five in 115's at-bats this season
The Chino Hills, California native led the team with four runs scored, a .438 batting average and also slugged .563 at the Mary Nutter Classic on her way to being named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week. She reached base safely in her first 13 games and opened her collegiate career with an 11-game hit streak.The Utes are in Tempe tomorrow night for a three-game series with Arizona State.
