Barrera Makes Cut for NFCA Freshman of the Year

List trimmed to 11 players from across the nation

SALT LAKE CITY - Utah's Alyssa Barrera has made the short list of finalists for the 2017 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year award.

Barrera was one 11 players selected from a national pool that includes five Pac-12 student-athletes. Barrera was named one of 25 finalists for this same award back on April 19.

The Chino Hills, California native currently ranks fourth in the Pac-12 and leads the Utes with 41 runs scored.. She led the team with four runs scored, a .438 batting average and also slugged .563 at the Mary Nutter Classic back in late February. For those accomplishments, she was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week.

Barrera reached base safely in her first 13 games and opened her collegiate career with an 11-game hit streak. She has started in all 44 games this season for the 13th-ranked Utes.
