LAST TIME OUT
The Utes opened Pac-12 play with a pair of road wins over both Oregon squads this past weekend. Utah opened Pac-12 play with a 66-56 win over the Oregon Ducks this past Friday and then closed out the weekend with a 66-64 victory over the Oregon State Beavers on Sunday.
Â
Justin Bibbins led the Utes with 19 points,
Sedrick Barefield scored 16 points and both
David Collette (11) and
Tyler Rawson (10) chipped in with double-digit scoring efforts to lead the Utes past the Ducks on Friday. Utah overcame a 13-point deficit and shot 56 percent from the field in the second half. After going the first 20 minutes of the game without a free throw attempt, the Utes finished 10-of-13 from the charity stripe.
Â
Utah led by as many as nine points in the first half against the Beavers on Sunday and OSU returned the favor to lead by as many as six points midway through the second half, but Utah went 9-of-12 from the free throw line down the stretch, which proved to be the deciding factor in the win at Gill Coliseum. Bibbins led the way again for the Utes, scoring a game-high 18 points and Collette added 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field.
Â
SCOUTING ARIZONA
Despite losing three straight and falling completely out of the top-25 rankings, No. 14-ranked Arizona has rebounded with eight straight wins, which included an 84-78 victory over then No. 3-ranked Arizona State this past Saturday in Tucson.
Â
Arizona has averaged 83.25 points per game since the three-game losing streak. The Wildcats are shooting exceptionally great from the field as well, as they head into the week scoring opposing teams at a clip of .515 on the season, which ranks No. 1 in the Pac-12 and No. 8 in the nation. They also rank No. 1 in the league shooting .395 from three-point range are among the top-three teams in the league with a .758 effort from the charity stripe.
Â

Freshman standout Deandre Ayton is averaging a double-double for the Wildcats with 19.7 points and 11.9 rebounds per game averages. He leads the league with 167 total rebounds, which also ranks No. 4 overall in the nation. His .619 field goal percentage ranks among the top-25 in the nation.
Â
SERIES HISTORY WITH THE WILDCATS
Arizona leads the all-time series 31-29, which includes a 1-10 mark since the Utes joined the Pac-12 in 2011-12. The Wildcats won last season's only meeting between the two teams, 66-56, in Tucson, but Utah won the previous meeting that was played at the Huntsman Center. The Utes earned a 70-64 win over the Wildcats back on Feb. 27, 2016.
Â
Utah is 20-10 all-time when facing the Wildcats at home, but Arizona has managed to win seven of the past eight meetings in Salt Lake City, which dates back to 1993.
Â
UTES SWEEP OREGON SQUADS
Utah picked up a pair of huge Pac-12 victories over the weekend, opening league play with road wins at both Oregon and Oregon State. With its win over the Ducks, Utah managed to collect a victory inside Matthew Knight Arena for the first time ever, while also winning in Eugene for the first time since 1951. The win also snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Ducks.
Â
Utah's win over the Beavers snapped a two-game road losing streak to OSU, while also avenging a couple of losses up there when the Utes led by double-digits in both contests. It marked Utah's second win in Corvallis since the Utes joined the Pac-12.
Â
Utah managed to pick up the two-game sweep over the weekend, netting back-to-back road wins against the Ducks and Beavers for the first time in school history. It was just the second time the Utes had taken both games from the Oregon school over the weekend - the first since the 2012-13 season.
Â
LIMITING THE TURNOVERS
Utah tallied just three total turnovers in its win at Oregon last Friday, marking the lowest number of turnovers the Utes have committed in a game in the
Larry Krystkowiak era. It surpassed the previous low of four turnovers that the Utes tallied against Washington State back on Jan. 21, 2015.
Â
UP NEXT
Utah will be back on the road next week facing both Los Angeles-based schools. Utah opens the week at UCLA next Thursday, Jan. 11 and will close out the week at USC on Sunday, Jan. 14. Both contests will be televised live on the ESPN family of networks.
